The last push

After an awesome weekend in Baltimore and Washington DC, it was the last leg of the journey to camp in Equinunk PA.

A solid 4 hour journey north into the mountains of PA and the car hit the 130k milestone while at it! (85k for the engine ;)

After a couple of pretty shots with the green background...

It was time to hit the twisty windies deep into mountains of Equinunk, Wayne County.

And without further adue, here we are!

Incredibly, my cheap little car made it! A beautiful summer ahead; if not before, I'll catch you all in the autumn!

Skyline Drive

Beautiful National Park with a nice road weaving through. I spent the day driving across the entire state of Virginia to get here and then, once through - headed to Baltimore to visit friends.

One more leg after this and I'll be at my summer destination!

Gorgeous, well kept roads
Gorgeous views too
Vast!
That's it! Sorry, I spent more time driving than photographing this time :)

One more....

And onto Baltimore before the final leg of the journey to Wayne County PA

The Tail of the Dragon

The tail of the dragon is one of the most Notorious bits of road in the US. Not so much of a stretch of road, so much as a squish; the treacherous 11 miles weaves down the mountain over the course of no less than 318 turns.

My route along the Cherohala skyway, which was good fun was only to lead me to this infamous place.

I was lucky enough to be there on a day when two companies were out photographing on two of the corners. I managed to find the images taken of me and my little car in proof form!

I also took video of the road itself, which I will add to this post at a later date.

Please enjoy... I certainly did!

I had to stop a couple of times to let the brakes cool down!

The only road in the UK I can akin this too, is probably the Ditchling beacon in Sussex… Only seven or eight times longer and with ditches either side of the road!

Fortunately, I made it without getting too close and personal with a ditch :-)

I think my little Puma earned this.

Best 60 quid I think I ever spent. If ever there was a reason to bring this car over to the States as opposed to buying one for the same kind of money, that road was exactly why.

The Cherohala Skyway

Wow. Whoever said the US didn't sport some good fun driving roads; lied.

My journey took me from GA to TN, into NC and back into TN. The Cherohala Skyway was so much fun and incorporated some of the coolest roads I have had the pleasure of driving.

Just getting there was entertaining, not just in the roads but also having no signal! So much for AAA; I would never have been able to call them!

Ready as I'll ever be?!

There were so many bikes but the really fun part was keeping up with them. Of course, they took me on the few straights that existed - but I kid you not, there were a couple of superbikes that could not shake the mighty 1.7 litre Puma!

This is one of the guys I was having some fun with.

So at this point, I should mention that my updates brakes never arrived in time...
So I had to stop periodically to allow them to cool down!

What a road.
Cooked the brakes again...

Still, an excuse for a couple of nice shots ...

And just before arriving at the Tail f the Dragon, check this out for a view

This was the end of the Cherohala. Here is the last video before the Tail of the Dragon...

Next up... Tail of the Dragon.
